Meet Maria

Maria is new to our team and we are so thrilled she joined our Desk Angel program!  She is always willing to help and goes the extra mile to make sure each student is comfortable.  She is our Desk Angel of the Month for November and she shares more about herself below.

What do you love about yoga?

I love that yoga is one of many ways in which one can discover one’s Self.  It is so much more than just a group of postures or a ‘good workout’.  It’s an 8-limbed, scientific approach to using the mind and body to transcend the limits of the mind and body and discover the true Self.    The opportunities for self-inquiry, growth and enhanced Self-awareness are limitless.  I love that even those who only embrace one or two of the eight limbs still see very positive and noticeable results in themselves and their lives.  One of the joys of being a Desk Angel is seeing the amazing changes in the students over time.

How has yoga and meditation changed your life?

Yoga and meditation have significantly changed my life.  I think the flexibility and strength I’ve cultivated on the mat have flowed over into the rest of my life.  I can be flexible when dealing with people and situations that may be challenging and have the strength to endure life’s challenges.  As for meditation, I can’t even put into words the transformation that I’ve experienced.   I’m happier, more content, more at peace and have a much better outlook on life thanks to years and years daily meditations.  That’s one reason I love Ashtanga, it’s done in silence and thus becomes a moving meditation; another chance to practice quieting the mind.

Why did you want to be a Desk Angel at Bella Prana?

I sought out the Desk Angel position shortly after quitting a full-time job as a way to continue to affordably practice Ashtanga daily.  But now it’s not even about the finances; it’s just pure fun!  It has been such a joy to work with the management team, my super wonderful fellow Angels and of course the students.  It’s such a rewarding role to be able to participate in such a loving and supportive organization that is so clearly devoted to the principles of yoga.
