Mary has been such a faithful student since February 2020. That’s why we nominated her to be Student of the Month for April. She is always kind, and positive towards the staff and other students and we are so grateful she is a part of our yoga studio!
What do you love about yoga?
I have had pain and discomfort in my back for the last several years, and yoga has helped me get stronger physically and allowed me to keep the same level of activity I had prior to my injuries. The physical benefits were my initial reason for starting a yoga practice, but I am now so grateful for the benefits I’ve felt mentally as well.
Simply put, I love the way that yoga makes me feel.
How has yoga and meditation changed your life?
I started my yoga practice at my daughter Staisy’s recommendation in February 2020 and I love that it is something that we’ve been able to share the last few months…during the spring of 2020 when the studio was shut down and Staisy was quarantining with us in Clearwater, you could find us practicing yoga with the Bella Prana virtual studio by our pool with the ocean and dolphins in the background! Now we try to meet a couple times a week for classes so we can practice together.
Yoga has helped me become physically stronger, it has helped me during times of stress and it has definitely helped me find more mental grounding, especially over the last year. My yoga practice has assisted me in finding more core strength and increased flexibility and has helped me experience less discomfort in my back on a daily basis. As a 72-year old woman who normally finds herself practicing next to people much younger than me, I always walk out of class feeling proud of myself at what I’m able to accomplish and the experiences I’ve had on my yoga mat.
Why do you practice at Bella Prana?
I started practicing at Bella Prana because my daughter has been a member here for several years. After my first Beginners class with Rachel, I was hooked. Since beginning my yoga practice last year, I also have practiced with other instructors at other studios not only here in the Tampa Bay area, but also in other states; no studio compares to Bella Prana when you consider the welcoming atmosphere from the Desk Angels, the instructors AND the other students, as well as the high level of instruction I receive in every class I’ve taken. I now practice exclusively at Bella Prana – there’s no other studio I’d drive 45+ minutes both ways for!
What is your style of class to attend?
My favorite classes to take are either Gentle, Restorative, or Yin and I love practicing with Lois, Jirod, Megan, Giovanna or Valerie D. It’s always so fun to hear Motown music during Jirod’s Gentle class on Saturday mornings! These teachers have taken the time to get to know me personally not only as a student but as a friend both on and off the mat, and I look forward to practicing with these teachers every week.
