Love for Barb

Barb is shining light in the yoga community. She has natural grace and strength that she uses to guide her students through a full mind and body yoga flow. We are grateful for all that she brings which makes it easy to call her our Teacher of the Month for November!  Learn more about how Barb teaches below.

When/how did you discover yoga?

I was doing my residency in Palo Alto and a colleague exposed me to Lilias- it was a revelation!

What do you love about teaching yoga?

I love the invitation yoga offers for personal transformation. Teaching explores that both at the individual and group level. The collective energy and connection fills the whole room – we lift each other up!

How has yoga and meditation changed your life?

Each time I practice yoga or meditation I come home. More at home with self and others and much clearer about this “veil of illusion” and the true calling of being in service and helping others- after all, we are all just walking each other home.  I practice mindfulness, yoga and meditation because it makes me a better mother, wife, friend, teacher, psychologist- a better human being.

Why do you teach at Bella Prana?

Bella Studio is aptly named – beautiful energy. When you walk through the doors, it’s palpable- the feeling of more ease and space in your life. The studio itself is physically beautiful and all the people there- teachers, staff and students alike, share a beautiful, abundant generosity of spirit.  I feel such deep gratitude to have Bella as a sanctuary.

Why do you incorporate natural aromas such as rosemary in your classes?

I like to include essential oils, basil, rosemary in my class as a gentle reminder from nature of the pure essence of being.  The simplicity and wonder that is mindfulness and yoga. When you feel at one with nature – you’re at one with yourself. The beauty of many of these ancient wisdom practices is that now we are able to see scientifically how the simple touch of a twig of Rosemary from a garden or the scent activates the parasympathetic nervous system and allows us to rest, restore, relax and release.
