Kara is the angel that we can count on ALWAYS. We appreciate her years of service to our community. Her leadership at the desk truly shines bright and her natural ability to feel the emotions of others is her unique superpower. She is the steadiness and voice of reason for us all who have the honor of working alongside her. Thank you for being our Desk Angel, Kara! We adore you.
What brought you to yoga? How has it impacted your world?
I originally started practicing yoga in 2009 because my gym offered it after certain intense classes. I found an independent Hot Yoga studio in Clearwater in 2012 where I practiced, and then started to bring my volleyball players for a different look at strength and conditioning. Alongside my athletes, I found more of an internal satisfaction alongside the physical, and the transformation process began for me. I left Clearwater and my teaching/coaching job and found Bella Prana Yoga and Meditation in 2014. Since then, I have been a desk angel, explored many types of yoga classes: from power, yin, vinyasa, and yes, I am still practicing Hot 26! I have enjoyed the journey of my practice as it continues to evolve. Yoga has now given me the tools to cope with teaching middle schoolers in this new wave of education. Yoga has taught me that my breath is a powerful tool on and off the mat, and the service to my fellow community members is a way to continue to focus on the important parts of myself.
What advice can you give to those who are just beginning their practice?
My advice to new yoga practitioners is to not get caught up in the social media mentality of yoga. Yes, it’s so much fun to pose with your omies on the ‘gram, but yoga is so much more than a shape your body can make! Yoga is for everybody and every body! Even if you don’t think you are flexible or strong, yoga can help assist you in those things!
Why are you a Bella Prana Desk Angel?
I am a Bella Prana Desk Angel because service is my life’s calling! I also am obsessed with my community and neighborhoods, so it’s a win-win to be able to serve the people of my local neighborhoods! I love the owners, Roni and Tina, and have made incredible bonds with the teachers, students and desk angels at Bella over my 6 years! I also love helping at Bella Prana events. You can find me every first Wednesday of the month checking in students and demoing at our “Wellness at the Wharf” classes!
What’s one of your favorite (healthy) recipes that you would like to share with the Bella Prana community?
Healthy Recipe: Paleo Roasted Red Pepper Bisque w/ Shrimp. It is so tasty and warm for the cold evenings of Winter! I like to pair it with Smoked Gouda Triscuit Crackers or just a warm slice of sourdough bread!
What book or documentary has changed your life in the recent year and why?
I have been touched by the following books. The accounts and lives of these incredible humans have struck a chord with me and for reading these, I have learned tolerance, empathy, and acceptance in new ways. The books are:
- “Over the Top: A Raw Journey to Self-Love” – Jonathan Van Ness
- “Karamo: My Story of Embracing Purpose, Healing and Hope.” – Karamo Brown
- “Becoming” – Michelle Obama
- “Naturally Tan” -Tan France
